AKT protein, also known as Akt protein kinase B (PKB), is a serine/threonine-specific protein kinase that plays an important role in various cellular processes such as glucose metabolism, apoptosis, cell proliferation, transcription, and cell migration. AKT is particularly significant in cancer research as its overactivation can promote the survival and proliferation of various cancer cells. AKT participates in the PI3K/Akt signaling pathway and regulates various cellular functions such as metabolism, growth, proliferation, survival, transcription, and protein synthesis when fully activated. AKT can be activated by various upstream signals, including integrin, receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), B and T cell receptors, and G protein-coupled receptors. Conversely, protein phosphatase 2A (PP2A) can dephosphorylate and deactivate AKT.
